Slingshot Aerospace trumpets TALOS, “Thinking Agent for Logical Operations and Strategy.”
Catchy acronym. But between you and me, this agent mostly remembers what others did before. Behavior cloning: it watches old satellite tricks and repeats them faithfully in its physics sandbox. Originality? Optional.
They lean hard on their Space Force OTTI collaboration. Convenient. Call it multitasking: they built the agent, hired the testers, watched the demos, and now say the testers love it. That’s kind of like handing out your own engagement ring and declaring eternal love.
During Space Flag planning, the 57th Space Aggressors Squadron “used” TALOS. But that unit’s job is to play bad guys anyway; letting AI chase its tail at machine speed maybe helped accelerate planning, but likely didn’t save a real mission life.
In press leaks they promise TALOS will manage live spacecraft decisions, choosing optimal action in real-world orbits. Oh really? Because “uses Seradata” sounds like “reads its own diary” rather than a dynamic strategist. Autonomy needs real-time, evolving unpredictable adversaries, not just ghosting history lessons.
Finally, let’s not forget Slingshot’s toolkit: Beacon for collision avoidance, Agatha for anomalies, RF tracking, multi‑sensor fusion and global sensors. TALOS is the shiny new toy in a toolbox they’ve been quietly building since 2017.
So sure, TALOS is launching. But let’s not confuse polished marketing with battlefield AI genius. It’s a clever simulation stunt, less “thinking agent,” more “ex‑milestone memorizer.”
Still, if you want to train operators by cloning past moves at machine speeds, it might just save you from yelling department‑wide drills.
